Montgomery County Council responds to “Uncle Tom’s Cabin” blog post

Yesterday, I received the email quoted below from former Montgomery County Council president Nancy Floreen in response to my blog post on Montgomery County employees writing letters to the editors of local newspapers on behalf of private citizens.

I can’t help but wonder if the email from Floreen was written by the same staff person who composed former HPC commissioner Warren Fleming’s unpublished letter to the Washington Post ….

Dear Mr. Rotenstein:

Thank you for your correspondence regarding the letters to promote the development of the park formerly known as “Uncle Tom’s Cabin”.  I have distributed your correspondence to Councilmembers.

I really appreciate your telling me about your investigation into the source of two letters.

The central issue for the Council is whether to fund a park.  The funding for the park, if and when it is proposed by the Parks Department, will be decided by the Council on its merits.  When residents put facts on the table, it does not matter who presents those facts.  I appreciate that your recommendation would be to deny all funds.  Other residents may have a different opinion.

It was very kind of you to weigh in on this subject.  Thank you!

Sincerely,

Nancy Floreen
Council President
